ZELI HANGAR
Commercial New Construction
Zelienople, PA
2026
Zeli Hangar marked our first commercial project and an opportunity to bring a level of design and hospitality rarely seen within Pittsburgh’s private aviation spaces. Designed for a group of partners, the challenge was to translate multiple perspectives, priorities, and ways of using the space into one cohesive experience that felt elevated, welcoming, and distinctly its own.
The scale of the building presented a unique architectural starting point. Massive clear spans were required to create the uninterrupted floor space needed to house personal aircraft, resulting in a robust exposed steel structure that became an integral part of the interior. Rather than competing with it, we designed around the strength and industrial character of the building, balancing the steel with warmer materials, layered furnishings, and more intimate moments throughout.
Above the hangar, the mezzanine was conceived as something more akin to a private flight club than a traditional hangar lounge. A fully equipped kitchen, dining areas, and fireside lounge create a comfortable place to gather, while dedicated seating zones accommodate everything from a solo traveler between flights to larger groups arriving or departing together. A private office, full bath, sleeping quarters, and quiet room with elevator access allow the space to support both quick arrivals and extended stays.
Our scope continued through a complete installation—from furniture and lighting to linens, tabletop, glassware, and the details required to make the space immediately ready to host. The result brings the comfort and consideration of high-end residential design into an unexpected setting, creating a private aviation experience that feels distinctly different for the Pittsburgh market and is designed as thoughtfully around the time between flights as the travel itself.
